It was the reigning League Champions Chilcompton Sports that were the visitors to The Grove on Saturday. As both teams had their respective fixtures postponed last Saturday due to unfit grounds this was the first time they had played a league game this season.
The opening minutes were evenly contested with the initial shot in anger coming from the visitors on five minutes which was just over the United bar. However, on 14 minutes Chilcompton took the lead when a through ball just evaded the United defenders before being expertly slotted past Owen Adamson.
Chilcompton then had the majority of play but could not turn this advantage into goals being restricted to several long shots that were off target. On 37 minutes Nailsea put a good passing movement together but the resultant shot by Adam Marsden was easily collected by the keeper.
Chilcompton could have gone into the break with more goals but Owen Adamson saved well a shot destined for the top corner before being called upon to dive to his left to push a low effort around the post for a corner.
Half Time. Nailsea United 0 Chillcompton Sports 1
United did well to keep the goal difference to just one as the visitors had the majority of play.
United started the second half brightly with a snap shot by Ben Pinkney rising just over the bar. Chilcompton soon retook the initative scoring their second goal on 52 minutes. United failed to clear their lines when they had the opportunity giving the chance for the ball to be stabbed home to double the lead for the visitors.
On 65 minutes Nailsea made their first change with Ben Pinkney making way for Matt Day in attack. Although Nailsea competed well they could not make any goal chances as the second half wore on. With 15 minutes to go a deep cross from Rob Brown found Luke Penberthy but his shot was easily gathered by the Chilcompton keeper. With ten minutes to go the final Nailsea change was made as Henry Symonds replaced Luke Penberthy in the final roll of the dice.
The only real action of the last ten minutes was a well struck free kick from the visitors which was saved by Owen Adamson.
Final Score. Nailsea United 0 Chilcompton Sports 2
On this occasion United were beaten by the better side and you can be sure that Chilcompton will be amongst the front runners again this season as they try to hold on to their title. An entertaining game played in a good spirit on a difficult bone hard pitch.
