It was a much changed Nailsea side from the one that defeated Worle in the week that took to the field at Clutton.
The opening ten minutes were evenly contested with Clutton coming closest to opening the score on 12 minutes but the shot was wide of the post. Nailsea had to wait until 20th minutes had elapsed for their first concerted attack but the Clutton keeper was not troubled.
The home side looked the most likely to score with Jamie Whitfield saving United with a timely tackle on 25 minutes. Five minutes later a James Springett corner was met by Mike Rowcliffe but could not find the target.
As the half progressed the United side grew in confidence as they began to find their colleagues but no real goal attempt was made.
Half Time. Clutton 0 Nailsea United 0
At the start of the second half Adam Marsden was replaced by Scott Fisher. Three minutes into the half a well weighted through ball by Cameron Henderson could not be collected by either Mike Rowcliffe or Matt Thomas, had they done so it was only the keeper to beat.
On 53 minutes a good turn by a home player saw him shoot but Will Hodges in the United goal dived full length to tip it around the post. Just afterwards Hodges was called on again this time to push away a header which was bound for the goal. At this point Clutton had the momentum.
With 20 minutes remaining a strong run by Jamie Whitfield saw him cross into the centre where a Clutton defender sliced his clearance only to see the ball rebound against the upright to safety. Brad Cogan had a half chance on the left flank but his shot was gathered by the home custodian. United were now having the best of the play with Mike Rowcliffe and Mike Carroll combining on the left with the latter firing just wide of the far post. Probably the best chance Nailsea had of snatching the win came with two minutes remaining when a good move saw Mike Rowcliffe lobbing the ball over the advancing keeper but his effort was just too high.
Final Score. Clutton 0 Nailsea United 0
A draw was probably a fair result with no side taking the few chances created.
Next Saturday August 24th United are home to Westfield with a 3.00pm start.
In the other game on Saturday the Reserves lost by two goals to one against Congresbury.
