In this first midweek game as the season draws to a close, Nailsea hosted South Bristol side Stockwood Wanderers in a mid table battle. Earlier on in the season the sides fought a scoreless draw at Stockwood.
The visitors had the better of the opening minutes but could not turn their possession into something tangible. United then began to have more of the ball with Adam Marsden having the first shot in anger but his effort sailed over the bar.
On 20 minutes the ball was worked to the left where Harry Hope cut inside to unleash a powerful shot from just inside the penalty area which beat the Stockwood keeper only to thud against the crossbar to rebound to safety. Five minutes later James Springett fed Kin but his low shot was gathered by the keeper.
With 30 minutes gone Harry Hope again set off down the left flank before pulling the ball back into the centre to find Adam Marsden but the strikers shot lacked power and was easily saved. On the stoke of half time a corner by Kin fell to Harry Hope but his quickly taken shot did not trouble the keeper.
Half Time. Nailsea United 0 Stockwood Wanderers 0
The first half was even with no clear cut chances created by either side.
Fifteen minutes into the second half a free kick on the right taken by Kin found Joe Sharps but he was unable to adjust his feet with his first time shot going wide. Two minutes later Stockwood had a golden opportunity to take the lead when they cut the Nailsea defence open to leave a one on one chance against keeper Owen Adamson. The Stockwood player went around Adamson to leave himself the chance to push the ball into the empty net, incredibly he sliced the chance wide.
On 65 minutes United brought on Sam Olsen in place of Joe Sharps as they sought the first goal. Five minutes later Adam Marsden tested the keeper to which he was equal. With 15 minutes remaining a Kin free kick was met by the head of Scott Fisher but he could not find the target.
In a final move Ben Pinkney was replaced by Ciaran Price as the Stockwood team became more robust with their tackles resulting in a red card being brandished by the official.
Final Score. Nailsea United 0 Stockwood Wanderers 0
So after 180 minutes play neither side could muster a goal over the two matches. This was perhaps a fair score line as the two sides cancelled each other out.
Just a word about last night’s official who although very young never let what could have been a difficult match get away from him as in particular Stockwood pushed the rules. Congratulations to him, he should go far.
