It was an undefeated United side that took to the field for their home match against Ilminster Town. With a win and two draws behind them Nailsea were looking to consolidate their position in the league.
It took only five minutes for Nailsea to take the lead following a 30 yard pass from James Springett to find Nathan Shipway who slipped his marker before driving the ball past the Ilminster keeper for a perfect start for the home side.
Nailsea continued to press with Joe Pratt sending a cross field pass to Shipway but this time the keeper saved. The home side were having most of the play with Joe Pratt rattling the bar with the keeper beaten. The Nailsea were playing some delightful football with Nathan Shipway unlucky not to add to his tally on 20 minutes when he collected a throw in from JamieWhitfield, turned but was just wide of the target.
Next it was Mike Rowcliffe to have a shooting opportunity which was provided by a passing movement involving six players but his effort was just wide. On the half an hour mark Ilminster who had been threatening down their right flank were unlucky when a cross field ball beat the Nailsea defence but could not be converted.
On 34 minutes United doubled their lead with Nathan Shipway finding Matt Day who unselfishly squared the ball to the unmarked Joe Pratt to finish a well worked goal. With ten minutes remaining Mike Rowcliffe had a curling shot which beat the keeper only to hit the upright before rebounding to safety.
Half Time. Nailsea United 2 Ilminster Town 0
Playing controlled football the home side were well worth their two goal lead restricting the visitors to a handful of half chances.
It was Ilminster that had the first shot in anger of the second half with a shot from distance that went wide. United quickly got into their passing game with Mike Rowcliffe making space for a shot with clever footwork on 50 minutes but the resultant shot did not trouble the visiting keeper. Next it was Joe Pratt who tried his luck by cutting in from the left but shot wide. Defender Adam Marsden was unlucky not to get his name on the score sheet with a 35 yard drive which hit the post.
Nailsea put the game to bed on 65 minutes following some goal mouth action which saw Matt Day set up Joe Pratt who found the back of the net from close range for goal number three. United then made three changes with Matt Day, Joe Pratt and Nathan Shipway giving way to Will Hodges, Sam Olsen and Matt Thomas.
Ilminster then had probably their best spell of the game but found the United defence in uncompromising form. The last 20 minutes saw Nailsea create two further chances with a James Springett free kick picking out Stuart Lee but his header lacked power. Finally with ten minutes remaining Matt Thomas saw the keeper smother his shot.
Final Score. Nailsea United 3 Ilminster Town 0.
This was the best United display to date keeping a clean sheet against a workmanlike Ilminster side whilst scoring three goals with more chances created. Each player looked comfortable on the ball with good passing movements which must have pleased the management team of Rob Prior and James Taylor. United are now in fourth position in the league and still undefeated.
